Presenter Biography


Kathleen Odean is known around the country for her lively presentations on new young adult books. This is her 18th year of presenting all new seminars that receive excellent evaluations from participants. Kathleen has been a youth librarian since 1982, and served as chair of the Newbery Award Committee. Teachers, librarians and parents have come to rely on her guides including Great Books for Girls (Ballantine, 2002), for which Kathleen appeared on NBC’s Today Show with Katie Couric, Great Books for Boys (Ballantine, 1998), and Great Books about Things Kids Love (Ballantine, 2001).

She has been an adjunct professor at the University of Rhode Island, where she taught young adult literature, and was an instructor for 10 years in Mansfield University’s on-line School Libraries and Information Technologies program. She is the young adult fiction reviewer for Teacher-Librarian, and also reviews for Kirkus and The Providence Journal.
